Welcomed by locals and heralded as long overdue, Banque Gastro Bar in Remuera has quickly established itself as a popular eatery with its chic, modern décor and warm, comfortable ambience, setting the standard for the next generation of restaurants. Dark wood floors, varnished wicker chairs, soft grey tile, burnt red and cream stripes, lush brown leather, little corners for privacy or a large area for parties.

The back bar is features a wood burning fireplace to add warmth in the cooler winter months. There is a wonderful tapas menu, which changes regularly and may include home made terrine, ribs, ragout or shellfish.

This menu is also available in the front bar, which has a cosy lounge area with leather banquettes, comfortable cushions and a fireplace set into the window; on balmy summer evenings, bi-fold doors open the bar onto the pavement. There is a wide range of beer available or if you prefer something a little more exotic, try a delicious cocktail.

The private upstairs function room, seating up to 30 people or 40 for a standing canape function, is an ideal place for private dinner parties, business functions or gatherings of any kind. Set menus and room set up can be personalised suit your requirements.

Banque's menu is simple, six entrees, six mains and six desserts, changing with the seasons produce and what is on offer at the markets. You might find fresh crayfish ravioli with tomato thyme butter sauce; parmesan crusted sardines with balsamic aioli; chicken tagine with Moroccan style cous cous; lamb rump with soft white polenta and sherry jus or fresh flounder, fennel and tomato. The food is simple, delicious and memorable.

The Chefs spend many hours experimenting with their ideas to come up with exciting new dishes so what's on special one night may go on the menu the next, perhaps red clam chowder or scallops with mimosa dressing, maybe veal or rabbit, there is always something to tempt your tastebuds.
